Hears formal appeals related to student academic

- Teaching Excellence Award Selection
Commmittee (2007-2009)
Selects a recipient for UFV's annual Teaching
Excellence Award from nominations received. The committe also
reviews and evaluates the awards selection process and criteria,
recommending changes in administrative policies, regulations and
procedures with regard to the award to the UFV Senate.
- Assessment Services Advisory Committee
(2006-2011)
Provide guidance and feedback on programs to
Assessment Services, which offers placement testing, prior learning
assessment, and portfolio projects.
- Computer Lab Users Group
(Library representative, 2006-2007)
Liaison group between the computer lab users
(faculty) and the technical personnel (ITS) that administer and
maintain the computer labs. This group is now defunct.
- Learning Commons Group
(2006-2010)
Develops and discusses issues and services related
to the Learning Commons members.
- Teaching and Learning Interest Group
(2006-2007; co-chair, 2007-2008)
Promotes excellence in teaching among faculty by
offering in-house professional development opportunities. This group
is currently on hiatus, pending administrative and organizational
changes.

Committee (2005)
"Undergraduate education at the University of
Oregon occurs in an environment where teaching, research, and service
are integrated and mutually enriching enterprises. Many
undergraduates already engage in the UO's research processes by
working in laboratories and in the field. The
Undergraduate Library Research Award program is
intended to recognize students who demonstrate extraordinary skill and
creativity in the application of library and information resources to
original research and scholarship."

Responsible for the administration and
interpretation of academic requirements for undergraduate degrees, and
for action on student petitions for exceptions to requirements and to
other academic regulations.

Advises the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies
on matters pertaining to undergraduate education; responsible for
reviewing, evaluating and enhancing the quality of the University's
academic program for undergraduates.
- Integration of Digital and Instructional Support
Services Task Force (Library Initiative: 2004)
"Develop a plan to integrate the wide range of
media, educational technology and instructional support services within
the UO Libraries. Develop plans for an online portal to simplify access
to currently disparate services (e.g., FITT, IMG, ISC, IR, MDLS,
classroom support, etc.). Make recommendations for ongoing management
of integrated services."
- Student Conduct Hearings Board
(2001-2003)
"When there is a decision to handle a student
conduct case by means of a formal hearing...a panel of two faculty and
three students will be drawn from the Board to hear the case. The panel
will listen to evidence, decide if the Student Conduct Code has been
violated, and determine which, if any, sanctions to impose, ranging
from a warning to expulsion from the University."
- Information Literacy Task Force (Library
Initiative: 2001-2003; Chair)
"Increase awareness of information literacy
concepts and practices. Draft a document (definitions, vision
statement, best practices, and outcomes) which can guide campus-wide
discussions. Encourage pilot projects in different disciplines.
Recommend strategies for extending information literacy into the
broader curriculum."
- Gateway Task Force (Library Inititative:
2000-2001)
"Plan and develop a new generation web-based
gateway to library resources and services. This new gateway will
continue to emphasize the user's information needs, with the primary
focus on undergraduate and graduate students and faculty. The new
gateway will incorporate current web technologies and information
delivery systems, while seeking to reduce the user's need to know
specific resources and/or collections and to present more flexible
integration of formats and subjects."

Elected university committee. Hears faculty
grievances not related to promotion and tenure. Served briefly as
interim chair, 2000-2001.
- Online Coordinators Committee

Plans Online
Northwest, an annual one-day conference sponsored by the Oregon
University System that promotes innovation and technology in libraries.
In 1999 I redesigned the web site and served as the webmaster until I
resgined from the committee. The committee reports to the OUS Library
Council.
- Task Force on New Instructional Programs
(1997-1998)
"To investigate opportunities for strengthening the
university's instructional program in library research and information
technology. The primary focus should be on additional credit hours
through restructuring existing library programs and/or collaborating
with teaching faculty to generate new courses. The goal is to create
diverse learning opportunities for students and partnerships with
faculty in teaching information technology."
- Information Technology Curriculum Committee
(Chair; 1997-1999)
An ad hoc, inter-departmental committee whose
purpose was to review the structure and curriculum of
The IT Curriculum (a series
of workshops on information technology developed by the Library), and
to make recommendations to the Library and other participating
departments on strengthening and sustaining the program.
- Faculty Instructional Technology Training (FITT)
Group (1996-2005)
An informal group that meets regularly and
represents the support units on campus that have responsibilities in
the area of faculty training, particularly training in the area of
educational technology. For several years this group planned an annual
campus-wide technology fair, and it was the major impetus for the
development of the Library's FITT Center (now the Center for
Educational Technologies), which provides personal consulting support
for faculty in the use of instructional technology and
multimedia.

(1996)
Planned a one-day conference for faculty on using
the web for instruction.
- New Student Orientation (1995-1996)
Served as a faculty mentor during new student
orientation.
- Gopher Server Administrator
(1994-1996)
Implemented a campus gopher server, and maintained
it throughout its brief lifespan.
- Internet Brown Bag Workshop Series
(1994-1996)
Coordinated a university-sponsored series of brown
bag workshops on using the Internet. These workshops were open to the
general community as well as the campus. One attendee suffered a heart
attack during a workshop, which was not necessarily a reflection on the
presenter or the content. Fortunately we were able to administer first
aid until the ambulance arrived.
