network of professional expertise resulting in excellent public
service programs in the post-secondary libraries of British Columbia,
using the latest methods, systems, and technologies."

Instruction Section
- IS Web Site Task Force
(Chair, 2006-2007)
Charge: "To propose at least two
recommendations for an organizational redesign of the Instruction
Section's Web site. The redesign will not focus on the look of the
site (graphics, colors, font styles, etc.), but on how and which
categories of information are presented on the home page and
subsequent pages, how the current information might be organized,
and what additions or deletions are recommended."
- IS of the Future Task Force
(2003-2005)
Charge: To examine and evaluate the
current state of the committees of the Instruction Section (IS)
with respect to: assisting IS in achieving its mission, meeting
member needs, promoting strategic directions of the profession,
and positioning IS as the leading professional organization for
academic instruction librarians in the future. To propose a series
of revisions, additions, and/or deletions to the number, names,
foci, charges, and responsibilities of IS committees. To propose
other organizational, structural, or bylaws changes to the Section
as deemed relevant. To provide a report of its recommendations to
the IS Executive Committee.

Coordinates the collection of archival materials
from IS officers, committee chairs, and others as required.
- Secretary (2002-2003)
Mission: "The Instruction Section of the
Association of College and Research Libraries enhances the ability of
academic and research librarians to advance learning, teaching and
research with respect to information literacy in higher
education."
- Conference Program Planning Committee
(Chair, 1999-2001)
Charge: "To plan and execute the
Section's annual conference program; to work with the Section Chair
and ACRL so that the Section's Strategic Plan and the ACRL
President's theme are incorporated into the Program; to examine
opportunities to co-sponsor the Program with other ACRL and ALA
units so as to avoid duplication of topics at the ALA Annual
Confernce; to follow established ACRL and ALA procedures for
providing the Program." Program title: Partners in Progress:
Using Campus Partnerships to Promote Information
Literacy.
- Communication Committee (Chair,
1999-2000; Member, 1998-1999; Intern, 1997-1998)
Charge: "To facilitate internal Section
communication, through both print and electronic media, about
membership activities, achievements, procedures, and publications,
and to pursue other appropriate channels of communication outside as
well as inside the Section. This committee is responsible for
maintaining electronic communications for the Advisory Council and
Executive Committee; for developing and maintaining the Section's
electronic information sites; for producing a newsletter and a
membership directory for Section officers, chairs, and committee
members; and for conducting an orientation for Section
Interns."
- Membership Committee (Chair,

Endeavors to secure new members for OLA by
contacting librarians and others interested in library service in
Oregon. Works with OLA's management contractor to ensure the
processing of memberships and the maintenance and distribution of
membership information. Produces and distributes a membership
brochure that targets new and former members. Receives a list of
non-renewing members from the association management contractor.
Receives a list of new members as requested.
- Online Membership Services Task Force
(2004-2005)
Charge: Establish plan for providing
members services online including membership registration, conference
registration, and elections. Also considered technlogy for managing
the association's web site.
- Secretary (2003-2004)
The Oregon Library Association advocates on
behalf of all libraries and library services in Oregon. The Secretary
serves as a member of the Executive Board.
- Task Force on OLA Archives
(2002-2003)
Charge: "Investigate current state of
OLA Archives and make recommendations to the OLA Executive Board on
the collection, organization and preservation of OLA records and
publications. These include web pages, electronic documents,
publications, minutes of Executive Board meetings, and reports from
divisions, committees and round tables as well as any others
identified by the Task Force as comprising the record of the
organization."
- Library Instruction Round Table (Chair,
1998-2000)
Purpose: "To promote library instruction
as a means to empower library users to become life-long learners;
to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and materials; to
foster continuing educational opportunities; and to promote
cooperation and fellowship among OLA members engaged in library
instruction."
- Publications Committee (Chair,
1999-2002; Ex-officio, 1997-1999)
Committee is responsible for three publications:
OLA Quarterly, the
Association's journal; OLA
Hotline, the Association's semi-monthly electronic newsletter;
and OLAWeb, the Association's
web site.
- OLA
Quarterly (Editor, 1999-2002)
Each of the four annual issues is based on a
single theme, with a guest editor. Themes are determined by the
Publications Committee. The Editor recruits guest editors, ensures
that publication schedules are maintained, and is responsible for
the overall quality of the journal.
- OLA
Hotline (Co-editor, 1994-1999)
Responsible for gathering news items, editing
(or writing) stories, and formatting the semi-monthly newsletter.
During the last two years we moved the newsletter from print format
to a completely electronic publication.

OLAweb (Co-editor, 1997-1999)
Purpose: "To keep Oregon's library
community informed about events and issues important to association
members, libraries, library trustees, and friends of libraries
across the state." As editors, we redesigned the fledgling web site,
which has now become a robust, frequently used communication vehicle
for the Association's more than 1,000 members.
- Executive Board (Secretary,
1998-2000)
Mission: "The Pacific Northwest Library
Association (PNLA) is an organization of people who work in, with,
and for libraries. PNLA provides opportunities in communication,
education and leadership that transcend political boundaries. PNLA
will have the support of its community. PNLA will meet continuing
education needs of the region. PNLA will develop stronger library
networks and networking in the region."

Column Editor, 2005-2007)
Public Services Quarterly is a Haworth
Press publication focusing on all aspects of public services in
libraries.
- LOEX-of-the-West 2002 (Chair,
2000-2002)
LOEX-of-the-West is a biennial regional
conference on library instruction held in a western state; this was
the fifth conference, held in Eugene, OR. It borrows its name from
the national LOEX Conference, but is not affiliated.
- NewBreed Librarian
(Co-creator and Co-editor, 2001-2002)
Bi-monthly webzine, daily news service, and web
site intended to foster a sense of community for those new to
librarianship, as well as others within the profession. It debuted in
February 2001 and ran until August 2002.
