About the Guild

The Lions Gate Quilters' Guild was established in 1994. The Guild has three main purposes:

The Guild meets 9 times a year, on the 4th Tuesday of the month (with the exception of December, July, and August). Visitors are welcome to attend any meeting for a drop-in fee.

Members pay an annual fee, due February 1 of each year. New members joining at other times of the year will pay a proroated fee.

Guild Activities

Quilt Show
Offered in even-numbered years, this is an opportunity for members to display their quilts for the public.
Fall Seminar
Offered in odd-numbered years, this is a 4-day event offering workshops by local, national, and international teachers. A lecture by one or two national or international speakers kicks off the event.
Workshops
These are offered throughout the year, by local and national teachers, and feature a wide variety of topics.
COPS Days
These are a great opportunity to spend a day working on your COPS (Creative Ongoing Projects) in the company of Guild members. Enjoy the community, as well as the potluck refreshments.
Spring Retreat
Spend a weekend away from home with no responsibilities other than to enjoy the company of other guild members, fabulous food prepared by someone other than you, and the luxury of time to work on whatever you want to (or not).
Community Quilts
Guild members give to the broader community by making quilts that are donated to various groups around the North Shore, including women's shelters and hospital maternity wards. Materials are provided for members to work on at home, and a weekend workshop once a year provides a great way to participate and enjoy the community of Guild members.
Show & Tell
Each Guild meeting provides an opportunity for members to show off their finished projects and to share stories about these projects.

Getting Involved

Opportunities to get involved in the Guild abound:

Volunteer to help at meetings
Welcome new members, prepare coffee & tea, show or hang quilts during Show & Tell and programs, and more.
Host a guest speaker
When we invite speakers from out of town, we often look for members to host them during their stay. This usually involves providing them with a private bedroom and bathroom, several meals, and transportation to & from the airport or ferry.
Join the executive
Run for office (elections are held in February) - no experience required. Positions include president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, program chair, newsletter editor, librarian, membership coordinator, member-at-large (2), and workshop coordinator. Other positions include coordinators for the quilt show, Fall Seminar, spring retreat, community quilts, raffle quilt, and quilt show excursions.
Join a committee
Much of the work of the Guild is accomplished through committees - planning programs, workshops, quilt show, and Fall Seminar, as well as organizing the community quilts program.
Join our online community
Share your finished projects, create galleries of your quilts, get answers to your quilting questions, provide answers to other members' quilting questions, learn new techniques, and more.
